This is the Math Assessment for Physics Placement (MAPP) Test. The MAPP test is designed to place incoming students into the appropriate beginning Physics course. You will be placed into either Introduction to Mathematical Methods for Physics or Classical Physics based on this exam. You cannot enroll in Classical Machanics Physics at certain Universities until you have first passed this placement test.
The purpose is to determine which of these two courses are appropriate for you. It is to help you. You should review your high school mathematics focusing on graphing, vectors and calculus (basic derivatives, integrals and their applications). The physics topics covered in this test include motion along a line and projectile motion and a few general word problems. You may use a calculator while taking the exam.
There are 32 multiple-choice questions, each worth one point, randomly drawn from a large pool of questions. You must score 24 or above to enroll in Classical Mechanic Physics, otherwise you will have to enroll in the preparatory course, College Physics Prep. Although there is a software monitored 2-hour time limit, you should allow yourself at least ninety minutes to complete the test. This exam can only to be taken once. Since this test is administered online, please be sure you’re using a stable WiFi and power source for your desktop or laptop. Once you start the test you must complete the test.
If you have both a score of 4 or 5 on the AP Physics Exam C, Part I or II, and a score of 4 or 5 on the AP Mathematics AB exam or a score of 3 on the AP Mathematics BC exam, you are exempt from taking the test and may enroll in Classical Mechanics Physics at your institution. You should take this test if you have taken the AP exams but have not received your results by July 15th.
